I love duct tape (or as they call it here "duck tape", but the one thing I couldn't imagine using the tape on would be a duck, so...). Anyway, Duct tape is great stuff, as seen on Mythbusters, as used in the SCA, etc.

That being said, I have often wished for a little help whilst doing "do it yourself' projects (the "yourself" part is not my favorite). What better for a "little" help than those Minions from Despicable me?

JVCC GAFF30YD Premium Grade 30 Yard Gaffers Tape: 2 in. x 30 yds. (Black) Review

I bought this item in February of 2012 and it was perfect. The adhesive did not leave a residue when removed, there was a slight texturing to the back which made it more durable and easy to rip off.

I bought it again two months ago and it's completely different. The backing is much weaker and does not rip as easily. I've had several occasions with this new one where I've removed the tape and the adhesive has stuck to the object, completely separating from the backing.

This tape is manufactured entirely different than it was a year ago, and in every way it's for the worse. I don't know if it's being produced by a different manufacturer or if something else has changed, but it's no longer the best choice on Amazon. This is one of the more affordable options here, but you're probably better off spending another dollar or two and choosing a different brand.

I just wanted to provide a little more information here. Based on some other reviews here and some of the pictures submitted by other people, I now think that it may not be that the manufacturer has changed, but rather that this seller gets gaffers tape from different sources of varying quality and it's a complete gamble regarding which one you will receive. There is a very informative picture in the customer submitted photo section where a person bought four rolls and each was completely different.

In the last few months I've kind of gone a little gaffer tape crazy. I've been buying a whole bunch of other gaffers tape trying to find one that was as high quality as my first experience with JVCC Gaffers Tape (The product you're looking at now)

- In April I bought Allstar Performance ALL14253 Black 2" x 180' Gaffer's Tape which, though it doesn't mention it on the product details page, is made by ISC Racers Tape. Unfortunately I was not very impressed with the quality of this tape either and found it wasn't very good at staying adhesive for my uses.

- In May I started to look into Pro-Gaff Gaffers tape because the reviews seemed pretty good. For full disclosure, I'd like to note that I didn't buy Pro-Gaff from Amazon because it's available from Guitar Center and I could get a discount there, but it appears to be the exact same product that you can get at Amazon. I have found that the Pro-Gaff tape is better than the Allstar Performance ISC Racers Tape, but still not as good as my original purchase from JVCC.

And thus the quest for the best Gaffers Tape continues! I now have three rolls of gaffers tape stacked up that I'm not using and looking for the next one to purchase. In all honesty, I'm considering buying another roll of the JVCC to see if I can get lucky with another high quality roll and see if I can figure out who actually manufactures it. As I continue to search out the best tape, I'll keep this review updated.

5038-3 PK Fix-It DUCTape 1.87-Inches x 60-Yards, 7-Mil, 3-Pack Review

This Intertape "Fit-It DUCTape" is a seriously good value for a lot of reasonably good quality duct tape. While not the strongest duct tape I have used, it is more than adequate for the general patching and sealing tasks around the house and in our small business.

The three rolls are 60 yards each, for a total of 180 yards (540 feet) of tape. I also like that this tape adheres well to most surfaces.

Scotch is the brand I usually buy when looking for tapes. I have bought the two sided tapes for years now, for both business and personal needs. The early lesson I learned was to make doubly sure that you mount to a surface where you won't want to remove the item from later. If you mount a picture to a painted wall, for example, and then remove it the paint will most likely comme off with the tape. This tape here is clearly called "Permanent" for good reason.

This is really great stuff! It's thinner and more flexible than regular duct tape. The adhesion is at least as good as Testa tape (decent quality duct tape). Finally, while not transparent it's clear enough to read even very small text through it, as the accompanying video shows.

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews, accompanied by detailed videos, can take the place of first-hand experiences that are often lacking in online shopping. I do random electrical work, and a lot of electrical and mechanical work with cars and motorcycles, stereo installs, whatever comes up, etc. I haven't used cheap electrical tape for at least 12 years since I first found how much better the higher quality tapes are.

I now only use scotch 33+ tape, or the Scotch 88 if I need a thicker tape (I usually use the 88 on my motorcycle and auto work since it's thicker and more protective against both moisture and heat/cold.)

When wrapped correctly I've never had it come off, it's simply excellent.

You can use this tape just about anywhere, even on wood surfaces, as long as you don't mind the fact that it looks like tin foil. The main purpose is for sealing air ducts, which it is very good for, but it is a good all-purpose tape to keep around the house as well. Better than gorilla tape in my opinion, because the adhesive on it will succumb to heat and come off, this kind won't. Maybe the only thing better than this would be the super-sticky foil tape that is for leak repair (looks like chewing gum almost underneath when you try to pull it off).
