ETA hand2mind Inflatable Globe with Stand Review
I give two stars not one because it made me laugh. So while looking through this globe found many incorrect or outdated items. But it made me laugh at the hilarity of these mistakes, so maybe its worth it for that. but well lets see.... where o where to begin: How about Canada. Vancouver, BC is just inside the US border. Consequently, Seattle is pushed further down, as is Tacoma, situated about where Portland should be, but of course Portland is pushed down too. Then there is Eugen, should be Eugene. Further down in what should be Los Angeles, it has apparently been renamed Las Vegas. I can't tell the difference between them myself either, but come on..... And below that is San Digo, missing an e. Elsewhere in the US are (spelled exactly as shown) Fort worht, San Antoni, Houxgon (????), Savannan, Nor folk, Bochester, and Portlan (in Maine).
On to South America. There is the country of Colombla with an l. Just above it is the Netwerlands Antilies and Martinoue (should be Martinique). Down in Falkland, there is Stantey (Stanley is capital of colony Falkland Islands). Over in the Pacific ocean is Easte I (no r). There is also Fui (Fiji). Speaking of the pacific, most of the major island groups aren't shown, but I doubt many will concern themselves with that.
Europe is not spared, there is Hungart, and Czechoslovakia shows even though the constituent Czech and Slovak are also shown. There are countries named Belorussian and Moldavian, as adjectives more than proper nouns.
In Africa, there is Yunisa (Tunisia), Chan (Chad), Zaire (it's now Democratic Republic of Congo), Cabinda is shown as a separate country but its a part of Angola. Of course, South Sudan isn't shown, but then it is quite new.
And finally Asia, there's Manldives (Maldives), Cambdia (Cambodia). Jammu and Kashmir are shown as disputed territories with a different color, which is different than I usually see on atlases or globes, where the cease fire line is the border. Taiwan is shown as a part of China, and if you ask China, they'll insist it is, but most of the rest of the world looks at it as a separate country. But then, this product is likely made in China, so censors there would never allow acknowledgement of Taiwan. At least they did show East Timor, I give them credit for that.
OK, I'll get off my soapbox now. Maybe this doesn't help you decide to purchase or not purchase the product, I'm just annoyed by glaring inaccuracies. So if you want an item that looks like the earth decorating your room, buy it. If you want actual information, get a proper globe.
