This little connector screws into one of the threaded holes in the side(s) of an electric splice box. (Unused holes are covered by a threaded plug to keep out bugs, fingers & moisture.) The threaded nut with the protrusions on it tightens against the box to keep the connector in the desired position. Then, the two screws on the clamp part (you can see one screw in this photo) are used to tighten down the clamp firmly on the Romex or similar electrical cable. The splice box may be behind a wall or ceiling to supply electricity to a socket, switch, light fixture, whatever. The box itself is firmly attached to a beam or stud. This connector gives some protection against someone accidentally pulling a live wire out of place and burning the building down or getting hurt and making a lawyer rich. Tighten the clamp real good.
