I bought this chain to replace a pick-up chain on my New Holland 66 baler. I was torn between a much more expensive American-made chain and this one made in China. I needed a really strong chain. I found that the chain was very firmly joined. It was difficult for me to break the chain in order to size it to my needs, but that means that it will not break easily in use either.

I recommend grinding down the rivet at the joint before you break the chain. I used a cylinder-shaped stone bit from my Dremel tool set with a drill and I clamped the chain to my workbench. Grind until the surface of the rivet is flush with the chain face. Then use a "chain breaker" tool to snap the rivet out of the joint pointing the pin of the chain breaker at the ground-down side. When the rivet pops, swing the link sideways with a small lever such as a screwdriver and shake the rivet out of the joint.

My chain came with one connector link. I recommend getting an additional package of connector links in case you want to use the rest of the chain for another loop on your machine. The connector link has a two pin side to connect the chain ends, and a two-hole face plate. The pins on the connector have small grooves near the end to hold the clip plate. This thin plate has a long slot with a slit at the small end and a keyhole slot. Put the keyhole slot on the pin first, then use a needle-nosed plier to pull the clip apart at the slit and snap it around the pin one side at a time. It will hold when both sides of the long slit are snapped into the grooves on the pin.

Be sure to size up your chain before you cut, and remember to tighten the chain with the tightener roller on your machine.

My baler's manual says to replace all of the chains at once to keep them working together properly. I didn't do that yet and it ran OK. I'll probably replace them all when I do the fall maintenance before storing it.
