I had the metal kind that I used to fish heavy wire thru tight locations. However, it can be sometime unmanageable as it twists and turns to its final point. Much easier with the very bendable fiberglass. Probably could have saved $24 by using an extra long coat hanger since my distance was not that far, but need to go thru insulation and around a metal fireplace housing, so may have been worth the price for reduced aggravation.
