Motor runs well on 1.5V D Cell , but instructions specify 4-6 VDC. Note the photo in Amazon is totally wrong than properly constructed view. The brushes pictured at each end are backwards, you flip them to a narrow opening to come in contact with commutator. The motor also came with two magnets on each pole, not three as pictured. The two magnets per pole provide a good enough magnetic field, even though it leaves a larger than normal gap from armature. Would be interesting to see it run with three on each side. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "American Educational St. Louis Motor, 5" Length x 5" Width x 7" Height" are high quality item.
