Product Description

This CSK8PP one-way ball bearing with sprag freewheel backstop clutch is made of chrome steel, is double shielded, and has a steel cage. The inner and outer races each have a keyway, and the bearing has an 8 mm inside diameter, a 22 mm outside diameter, and a 9 mm depth. This single row ball bearing is suitable for applications that support radial loads. This bearing's inner and outer races are made of chrome steel for durability and resistance to deformity under heavy loads. It has Normal radial internal clearance for applications that do not involve thermal expansion or atypical precision. Metal shields on both sides of the bearing keep the lubricant in and contaminants out. The steel cage evenly spaces rollers for reduced friction, vibration, and noise. This bearing has a sprag clutch bearing that rotates in only one direction to provide backstop functionality for applications requiring stoppage of rotation without rollback.

Rolling bearings use rolling elements to maintain the separation between moving parts to reduce rotational friction and support radial and axial loads. These elements can be one of the following types: ball, cylindrical, spherical, barrel, needle, spindle, or tapered. All rolling bearings are open, shielded, or sealed. Sealed bearings are lubricated with oil or grease in the bearing factory, while open and shielded bearings are meant to be lubricated in place, with periodic reapplication of lubrication, based on use. The shield protects the working parts of the bearing from environmental debris that may be introduced and could reduce the ball bearing speed and lifespan. Rolling bearings are used in a range of applications from agricultural machinery to conveying equipment, robotics, dental equipment, elevators, rolling mills, ship rudder shafts, and aggregate crushers, among others.

CSK8PP One way Bearing with Keyway Sprag/Clutch Freewheel Backstop Review

I am a manufacturing engineer, I build machines and robots for a living. These sprag bearings are excellent, well made and inexpensive. If you don't know a lot about one-way clutches and bearings, here is a little more information for you. There are many types of one-way bearings and clutches, but they are very different, even if they might look the same. There are 3 kinds of loads that most people are concerned with in this type of application. Axial or thrust load is in the direction that you push the shaft into the bearing. In other words, if the bearing is loose on the shaft, applying an axial load will cause it to slide down the shaft. Radial load is the direction that most loads are applied. If the bearing supports a wheel, adding weight to the axle increases the radial load. Torque load is the ability of this bearing to turn in only one direction. Here is the important and often overlooked part: Most types of one-way bearings are NOT designed to take radial or axial loads, only torque. So you would normally have to have bearings already in place to fully support the load, and the one-way clutch would ONLY receive torque loads. These sprag clutch/bearings are actually ball bearings with sprags (one-way elements) between the bearing balls. So these bearings will support high radial loads, reasonable axial loads, as well as torque loads. If you use this type, you won't need other bearings to support those loads. They are permanently lubricated (not including full vacuum or submerged duty), but might leach a tiny amount of grease at higher temperatures, only a problem if your project requires super clean conditions. I've bought and have been using several of these for months, and am completely satisfied with them.
